Editorial Reviews

Album Description
This fourth installment of the now highly acclaimed Buddha Bar series is presented to you by resident #1 DJ David Visan. After studying music at the Los Angeles Music Institute, Parisian born Visan returned home to France where he was educated in the ways of deejaying by Claude Challe himself (Buddha Bar & Buddha Bar II) His mentor went on to train him in the spirit of the Buddha Bar. Buddha Bar 4 is a new sound adventure and the perfect follow up to its previous volumes. The series grows stronger with each release and IV is no exception. Visan injects new life into this double CD set and unlike the many that have tried to emulate the style of the Buddha Bar he carries you away with as much power, if not more, than those who have previously created the perfect sound in a perfect Bar. Housed in a slipcase. 2002.

There are few better avenues for musical armchair explorations than the classy Buddha-Bar series. This fourth compilation of global grooves taken from the playlist at the famous Parisian restaurant/night spot offers 28 tracks over two CDs: the "Dinner" disc supplies the lighter fare, while the "Drinks" disc is more dance-oriented. Seamlessly produced and sequenced by David Visan, IV offers a smorgasbord of transcendental world music that favors serene and organic over beat-heavy and mechanical. Smoothly moving from the Middle East to North Africa to India to Brazil and back over the ocean to Greece and Andalusia with several stops in between, the selections deftly reflect the self-reverential multinationalism of chic Parisian society. Nickodemus's trancy, tabla-driven "Desert Dancer," Armen Chakmakian's lovely North African "Distant Lands," and Guadalupe Pineda's flamenco-flavored "Historia de un Amor" spice up the "Dinner" disc, while the Arabic orchestra of "Louxor in Vegas" from Dan Lacksman's Alliance, and the modern Indian groove of MC Panjabi's "Mundian To Bach Ke" enliven the "Drinks" disc. Buddha-Bar IV is perfect companionship for a 'round-the-world vacation without leaving the house. --Carl Hanni
